My Years in Art
Art has been a constant in my life for as long as I can remember. I started drawing at a young age, always finding new ways to turn the things I imagined into something tangible. In fifth grade, I received my first digital camera, unknowingly beginning what would become one of my greatest creative passions.
By high school, photography had become much more than a hobby. I began taking it seriously as an artistic practice, developing my eye for composition, lighting, and visual storytelling. My senior photography portfolio was recognized among the top ten in my school district, an early milestone that encouraged me to pursue art professionally.
I went on to study Studio Photography at the University of North Texas, with a minor in Art History. While photography remained my primary focus, college became an opportunity to explore beyond the camera. I expanded my practice into drawing, painting, mixed media, and moving-image work, discovering how different mediums could inform and strengthen one another. During my senior year, one of my video art pieces was selected for display at the UNT Union.
After graduating, I began applying my creative skills in professional settings. At Red Door Escape Room, I contributed to the location's Instagram presence and created photography for its website and social media, gaining firsthand experience with visual content in a marketing environment. I also explored automotive photography and spent two seasons working as a school photographer with Lifetouch, further developing my technical skills, efficiency, and adaptability behind the camera.
In 2022, my creative journey took an unexpected but incredibly rewarding turn when I became an elementary art teacher. Teaching has become one of the most influential experiences in shaping my perspective as an artist. Introducing young students to creative expression has reminded me of the importance of curiosity, experimentation, and the freedom to make something simply because you have an idea worth exploring. It has also strengthened my ability to communicate visual concepts, guide creative processes, and approach challenges from multiple perspectives.
Throughout my teaching career, I've continued developing my own artistic practice, experimenting with different mediums and finding new ways to tell stories visually.
Today, I'm interested in bringing that combination of artistic exploration, technical experience, and creative leadership into the worlds of art direction, visual storytelling, and creative marketing.
